Creating the Content

When you have opened a page editor window (eg. by clicking on the ‘Edit Group’ icon on a Group page) you will see two rows of icons, most of which will be familiar to users of word processing software. Hovering your mouse over each brings up a text box descriptor.

The first set of icons on the first line are all similar to those found in MS Word and other similar software, and are not explained further here. Hovering your mouse over them will reveal their functions

The last five icons on the first row allow items to be inserted into the page.

Image Manager - enables you to upload, edit and insert images

Document Manager - enables you to upload documents to include (via hyperlinks)

Media Manager - enables you to upload videos to include (via hyperlinks), however a better solution is to load the videos onto You Tube and then include a hyperlink to them.

Insert Gallery - enables you to insert a set of images to be viewed in sequence

Insert Table - enables you to insert a table

These are explained in more detail in the following sections.

The icons in the second row enable you to change the font, style and attributes of text on the page. Again, these are all similar to those found in MS Word and other similar software, and are not explained further.
The penultimate box on this row is for Paragraph Style. This has not been properly installed yet. When it is, the drop-down menu here will contain all the standard fonts listed in the General Style Guideline above. Until this is properly installed please manually select the correct font, size and attributes using the previous icons and drop-downs on the row.

The final icon is the Hyperlink Manager icon . This is explained in more detail in the Adding a Link section.

[If you have Webmaster or System Administrator permissions you will see two other boxes at the bottom of the edit window: ‘Design’ and ‘<>HTML’. Clicking on each allows different options for creating the content. Design is essentially WYSIWYG, and is the default and recommended option. HTML allows the content to be input or edited as an HTML ‘programme’.
The option to use HTML to edit the design of a webpage means that there is considerable flexibility to the way that the contents of a page can made to appear. However it is recommended that you only use this facility with extreme caution unless you are very familiar with HTML and the various commands within it. There are many sites available online to provide some help and guidance.]

On Group and Event web pages there is a ‘green tick’ and ‘red cross’ at the top and bottom of the page, which will allow you to exit the page by saving your changes (the tick) or without saving your changes (the cross). Even though there is an autosave facility within the system, it is still advisable to save the changes you have made quite often; this allows you to check how your content looks, and also avoids losing a lot of work if you come out of the site by mistake.

Other web pages have ‘Save Changes’ and ‘Cancel’ buttons that fulfil the same function.
