The Scrabble group meets in Lightley Court on Fridays. Residents of Lightley Court have a fob to trigger the security door and allow them entry. Non-residents playing Scrabble should stand outside the glass door inside the porch and wait for the leader to open the door. Alternatively, they may walk to the door directly into the lounge on the right-hand side of the building (viewed from Crewe Road). Meetings will continue every Friday except Christmas Day (25 Dec 2026) and Good Friday (26 Mar 2027) until the end of May 2027.
On arrival members arrange themselves at tables in groups of 3 or 4. The Scrabble equipment is provided but at least one person each table should have a pen and paper to write down the scores. Each table plays three or four
games in the 2 hour session and players of all skill levels are welcome. Some members can't resist trying to score as much as possible and others are content to lay down whatever words they can pull out of their memory.
The Scrabble group meets for 2 hours every Friday in the months September to May starting promptly at 10am.
Although the highest scores arise from laying down all 7 tiles from your rack for a 50 point bonus, the key to consistent high scoring is a good knowledge of the allowed 2 and 3 letter words. A list of each set of words is on the website and, to make memorising them easier, a set of definitions is also available. It is possible that some people may not be familiar with the rules of Scrabble. They are quite simple and have not changed much since the game was introduced. You may download the lists and definitions of the 2 and 3 letter words as well as the rules of Scrabble by clicking on the icon labelled "Programmes & Reports Etc". This is under the icons in the top right corner of the web page.
