There will also be an opportunity for members to share their own family history stories and discoveries.

Tuesday 20 October

Ten Things You Didn’t Know About the Boer War – a talk by Shena Lewington

Shena will share the stories of local men from Cheshire who lost their lives in South Africa, as well as exploring the link with Foden’s Band.

The talk will bring to life a conflict that has largely been forgotten, but which had a significant impact on the British Army during the First World War — including the introduction and use of camouflage uniforms.

It will also provide valuable background and context for family historians researching ancestors who were away from the UK in 1901 and therefore missing from the census.

Tuesday 17 November

Military Stories

Have you discovered a fascinating military story while researching your family history?

Come along and share the stories, discoveries and surprises your research has uncovered. Whether you’ve traced an ancestor’s military service, found an intriguing record, or uncovered a story that has been passed down through your family, we’d love to hear about it.

A chance to share your discoveries, learn from others and perhaps uncover a few new research ideas along the way.
