A meeting for sharing the pleasure of books (fiction or non-fiction) which are ‘A Good Read’.
Members of the group prepare a short talk about their chosen book (A plea, please do not re-tell the story!) and perhaps choose a short passage to read out
which will give an idea of the writing.
Ideas for the talk:
- Brief biography of Author
- Genre of book
- Readability (style, pacing of story, intellectual demand)
- Characterisation ( characters well-observed / memorable / unusual / likeable etc…)
- Plot ( plausible, clever, well-ordered, unusual, difficult)
- Literary merit (prizes? Critics appraisals, reviews on programmes etc…)
- Your responses / reactions / feelings
The group is small, only 8 members, because we will be discussing up to 8 books in each session. Members tend to stay, so the waiting list is also small. We're a friendly lot and all book lovers. You'll get coffee/tea and biscuits while we talk.
