About the group

This group has been meeting regularly each week on Mondays at Gawcott Chapel, Main Street at 2.30 to 4.00pm. However, it is now in need of a new co-ordinator as soon as possible or will have to close down at the end of March, due to the current co-ordinator stepping down.  This role is very straightforward consisting of looking after group admin such as email and membership lists, and full support will be given by the Group Liaison Officer.  It could be shared by 2 or more people if required.
It is a small friendly group of people who enjoy making music. There is no need to be able to read music as handbells are played by numbers .
We play with either 6 or 8 ringers who have a bell in each hand. The bells are numbered, each ringer has two consecutive numbered bells and following the score, rings the appropriate bell.
We all make mistakes so no worries if you ring the wrong bell or at the wrong time.
It’s fun and quite easy once you get going.
We are looking for new members to join our group so why not give it a try?
Please contact the Group Co-ordinator, Karen Burton if you have any questions.

This is part of a ‘score’ for our bells, as you can see there are no musical notes mentioned, just numbers. The ringer holds a bell in each hand, the number representing the bell being held, so that in bar one for instance, bells one and two are ‘rung’ in turn for beat one and bells three and four are ‘rung’ in turn for beat two and so on.
We may look a bit serious when ringing, that is just us concentrating and counting in time.

Contact the Group coordinator for further information – details shown above.
