About the Group
We have enjoyed a wide variety of garden visits this summer season,
starting with a return visit to the lovely Ascott House garden in Wing. A
grand display of spring flowers featuring tulips and their splendid row
of flowering Dogwood trees.
May took us to Cherry Lane Garden Centre, a short drive north on the A5.
Amber gave us a very comprehensive talk about plants and garden
subjects in general. She had a table of colourful plants to illustrate
her talk. This was in their new demo area complete with tables chairs
and parasols surrounded by a picket fence. All lovely and appropriate as
it was the start of out hot summer weather.
In June the group travelled the short distance to Lillingstone Lovell
to Glebe Farm Garden. This is described as a large cottage garden full
of innovative ideas and ever changing plantings. It is owned by David
Hilliard and he happily showed us round and talked about its 28 year
evolvement under his care with help from his family. The cakes were
delicious.
In July we ventured further afield and headed north up the A5 from Towcester to Bugbrooke.
Steve and Kate have created an intriguing garden of many ‘rooms’
scattered with artefacts and unusual items which have all found niches
aimed at making one smile and feel happy. The plants, shrubs and trees
were rather delightful too, as were the homemade cakes.
As I write, our September visit to Rousham Garden, beyond Bicester, lies
ahead. Hoping we can eke out a sunny day amidst our more changeable
weather at the moment.
October sees us back in our ‘winter’ accommodation in Buckingham
Community Centre. October will be a talk on Organic Composting and in
November we will be making a beautiful foliage arrangement stuck into a
rather large potato!!! How could you not be intrigued!
Sadly our attendance numbers have rather fallen off. We do have a
regular bunch of loyal folk who come along, many of whom have been with
us since our inception in November 2016.
However we can thrive better
with a sprinkling of new people and their ideas and input. Please
consider joining us for our onward adventures.
We meet the 3rd Wednesday afternoon of the month except December and
August. If you’d like to come along to a meeting do drop me a note via
my email which is at the top of the group.
Happy Autumn gardening and enjoy the wonderful fall colours and plentiful fruits all around.
