We have had a very enjoyable summer visiting Preston Bissett Nurseries, Turn End Garden in Haddenham, Kingsbridge Garden, near Padbury, a tranquil garden in Middle Claydon and lastly, The Old Rectory “Garden4Good” in Quinton, Northants.
Our indoor season started in October with an excellent talk by garden designer, Maria Ellis, entitled: “Lighten the Load”. She had lots of tips about what to plant and how to manage a garden to lessen the need for maintaining it with lots of effort. It was very well received.
This was followed in November with another excellent talk, this time by U3A member, Geoff Dalzell, who gave a very detailed and illustrated talk on how to identify and manage problems with plants and shrubs, including creepy crawlies and flying insects, positioning of plants, sun v shade etc and the type of soil you have. It was information we could all benefit from, understanding the ‘secrets’ of a healthy plot.
We do not have a meeting in December and in January we are holding a casual get together at Buckingham Garden Centre restaurant. February may consist of a quiz and March a garden design project. Then we will be out and about again for April.
My, doesn’t time go fast when you join a U3A group!!
